Ticketmaster UK Facing Investigation Over Refund Delays
MPs Launch Inquiry into Consumer Rights Concerns
Ticketmaster UK is under investigation by the UK Parliament's Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) Committee over long delays in processing refunds for canceled events. The inquiry, launched on March 8, 2023, will examine the company's practices and the impact on consumers.
The probe comes amid widespread complaints from customers who have been waiting months for refunds for events canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In some cases, customers have reported waiting over a year to receive their money back.
Committee Chair Julian Knight said the inquiry will "examine Ticketmaster's practices and the impact on consumers, including the length of time taken to process refunds, the lack of communication with customers, and the overall fairness of the refund process."
The inquiry will also consider the wider issue of consumer rights in the live events sector. The committee will examine the effectiveness of existing regulations and consider whether changes are needed to protect consumers.
Ticketmaster UK has said it is "committed to working with the committee and providing all necessary information." The company has previously apologized for the delays in processing refunds, blaming the pandemic and a surge in demand.
The inquiry is expected to conclude in the summer of 2023. The committee will then issue a report with its findings and recommendations.
